December 1, 2023, marks a significant milestone in Mexico’s travel industry with the opening of the much-anticipated Tulum International Airport, amidst technical issues and a high-profile visit.

This airport transforms Quintana Roo into the Mexican state with the highest air connectivity, boasting a total of 4 airports. These include CUN, the country’s second most visited airport, CZM on the beautiful island of Cozumel, and CTM in Chetumal, the state’s administrative capital, located near the southern tip of the state, just kilometers away from Belize.

What does this mean for tourism and the state? The Riviera Maya stretches over 380 kilometers from north to south, with more than 130,104 hotel rooms across 17 tourist centers.

Direct international flights: Cancun Airport has welcomed just over 22 million visitors in the past 12 months, and the numbers keep rising.
